Maternal-Fetal Medicine Specialists

If you are pregnant, planning a pregnancy, or may be at risk for complications during pregnancy and childbirth, your doctor or obstetrician may recommend a consultation with a maternal-fetal medicine specialist.

A maternal-fetal medicine specialist (also called a perinatologist) is an obstetrician with special training in the diagnosis and treatment of potential complications during pregnancy and childbirth. The Maternal-Fetal Medicine Specialists at Lancaster General Women & Babies Hospital offer prenatal care and counseling from within the hospital.

These highly-trained physicians work hand-in-hand with obstetricians, family doctors, and midwives to provide screenings, monitoring, education and care for mothers and their unborn babies throughout high-risk pregnancies -- all in an effort to ensure the safest delivery possible.
