Put a Stop to Domestic Violence

Put a Stop to Domestic Violence

Domestic violence is a problem that cuts across age, gender, income and social status. Lyndra Bills, MD, Medical Director of Lancaster General Behavioral Health Services, says that it’s a problem that can occur whenever there is an abuse of power in a relationship.

“Domestic violence can be any type of abuse—verbal, physical or sexual,” Dr. Bills explains. “Whenever one person in a relationship feels abused or controlled, that constitutes a problem.”

Although domestic violence can affect both men and women, women and children are the most frequent victims. Fortunately, help is available. Lancaster General encourages women in abusive situations to get the services they need—whether it’s counseling, shelter, legal aid or just a shoulder to cry on.
