Lancaster General believes that early detection can make a difference in treating breast and cervical cancers.

The Healthy Woman program at Lancaster General offers free breast and cervical cancer screenings for income-eligible women over the age of 50. Lancaster General runs the program in conjunction with the Pennsylvania Department of Health.

Within 18 months of starting the program, Lancaster General Family & Community Medicine screened 75 women. The program coordinator enrolls eligible women in the program, educates them on cancer prevention and reviews their test results with them. If follow-up care is necessary, she also lends a hand.
