Medical Associates of Lancaster physicians are board certified, residency-trained specialists in general internal medicine. The specialty of internal medicine focuses on comprehensive care for adult patients. Internal medicine physicians provide preventative health care, health maintenance and care for adults with chronic diseases, common and uncommon illness and simple and complicated problems.

Medical Associates of Lancaster physicians care for their patients in an office setting and when they are admitted to the hospital. They also provide hospital care for referrals from family physicians, consultations from other physicians and teach internal medicine to the family practice residents at Lancaster General Hospital.

Medical Associates of Lancaster, The Story

Medical Associates of Lancaster was formed in December, 1999 with the merger of three practices, Thomas J. Biuso, M.D., Diabetes and Endocrinology Specialists, and Internal Medicine of Lancaster. The three practices also moved into a new office suite at 2110 Harrisburg Pike, Suite 100, at the Lancaster General Health Campus.

Dr. Biuso began his practice of Internal Medicine in Manheim Township in 1990. The practice grew steadily through the next seven years, emphasizing comprehensive adolescent and adult medical care, both inpatient and outpatient. In 1996 the practice was acquired by Lancaster General Medical Group and relocated to the Lancaster General Health Campus. Dr. Biuso has explored and incorporated certain aspects of alternative care into the practice. In 1999 on call coverage, office staffing and operations were combined with Internal Medicine of Lancaster.

Internal Medicine of Lancaster began in 1987 when O. Scott Lauter, M.D. assumed the practice of John D. Helm, Jr., M.D. Dr. Helm was a solo internist highly respected in the lay and medical communities. The practice was located at 618 Duke Street in Lancaster.

The practice experienced steady growth and in 1991 Christopher T. Addis, M.D. joined the practice. At this time, the patient base expanded to include younger adult patients,

The practice expanded its role in hospital inpatient referral and consultative care, and Drs. Addis and Lauter began teaching of inpatient internal medicine for the Lancaster General Hospital Family Medicine Residency. Practice growth in both the hospital and office continued. The practice relocated to the Lancaster General Health Campus in 1996 and was acquired by Lancaster General Medical Group in 1997.
