Location: Lancaster General Health Campus and Lancaster General Medical Services at Willow Lakes
Our hand therapy program offers comprehensive hand rehabilitation for individuals with hand and upper body problems resulting from:
- Physical trauma including fractures, tendon lacerations, burns, and crush injuries
- Nerve compression including carpal tunnel syndrome, thoracic outlet syndrome
- Overuse conditions including tennis elbow, tendonitis, repetitive minor trauma
- Post surgical intervention
Treatment is provided by a certified hand therapist, certified occupational therapist or therapy assistant, or a licensed physical therapist. Each trained therapist is expert in the rehabilitation of hand and upper extremity impairment.
Therapeutic intervention may include:
- Evaluation to address problems in the areas of range of motion, strength, coordination, sensation and function.
- Implementation of a treatment program to meet the specific needs of the individual and to maximize recovery.
This program may include:
- Splinting to protect the hand or to enhance motion
- Pain management
- Edema control
- Joint and soft tissue mobilization
- Coordination/dexterity activities
- Strengthening
- Sensory re-education and desensitization
- Job analysis
To be eligible for treatment, patients need to have a referral by a qualified physician. We strongly recommend that patients check with their insurance providers to make certain that our services will be covered.
