A Proactive Approach to Men's Health

If it’s not broken, why fix it? That’s the attitude many men have about their health. But the truth is that a little preventive maintenance can go a long way. Paul Conslato, MD, Medical Associates of Lancaster (a Lancaster General Medical Group practice), says that it’s never too early to develop a game plan for your health.

“In this day and age, time is an important issue,” Dr. Conslato admits. “Men sometimes don’t allocate time for their health until they reach their fifties or sixties, because they feel well through their forties and think, ‘I don’t need to worry about that yet.’”

Dr. Conslato talks to patient Doug Morris about the importance of routine health screenings. And while they may not need to worry, preventive procedures can make a big difference. Although men’s risk for developing most types of cancer and heart disease increases with age, testicular cancer and skin cancers are two types of cancer that strike younger men. Both are also very treatable when detected early.
“The earlier we can identify a health problem, the better off you’ll be,” he explains. “If you’re doing great, we’ll tell you you’re doing great and encourage you to keep up the healthy habits. If you have room to improve, we’ll share that with you too.”

Lancaster General is committed to helping men stay healthy throughout all phases of their lives. Our partnership with the Lancaster Barnstormers, Lancaster’s new baseball team, will give us a new venue to share the importance of preventive health screenings.

We are planning a special event at the August 21 Barnstormers game. Men’s Health Day at the Ballpark will be an interactive event to increase awareness of men’s health issues. We invite you to join us for a day of education and good old-fashioned baseball.
