Diabetes & Nutrition Center

The Diabetes & Nutrition Center is dedicated to educating the person with diabetes and family members in self-management.

Diabetes is a life-long disease affecting children and adults. Education is the basic tool of diabetes care. With the proper education, you can prevent serious long-term health problems. When you learn how to manage diabetes, you can live a healthy, active life.

A 10-year study, the Diabetes Control and Complications Trial (DCCT), was completed in 1993 to find out if keeping blood sugar levels as close to normal as possible could prevent or delay serious health problems such as blindness, kidney failure or nerve damage.

The DCCT results showed improved blood sugar control reduced the risk of the following health problems:

  • Retinopathy (eye disease) by up to 76%
  • Nephropathy (kidney failure) up to 56%
  • Neuropathy (nerve damage)by up to 60%

The Diabetes & Nutrition Center offers various programs to help you manage diabetes. Please call 717-544-5923 to find out or click on one of the links to a specific class or program.
