First Day of Dance Is a Success
Thank you to all the participants that enjoyed education, fun and dancing at Lancaster General Heart Center’s first Day of Dance. This fun-filled Spirit of Women event was held on February 24, 2007 at the Lancaster General Health Campus and more than 2,600 attendees learned how fun dancing can be and the benefits it has on your heart.
Dr. Mark Burlingame and Dr. Jeff Cope, of Cardiothoracic Surgeons of Lancaster along with Tim Zellers, Vice President of Nursing and Operations donned tuxedos and presented the first 500 ladies with red carnations. Seventeen dance companies presented dance demonstrations and instructions such as belly dancing, Irish Step Dancing, Hip Hop, West Coast Swing, Hawaiian and much more!
Lancaster General’s own executive chef Doug Kulp created delicious and health dishes including dessert! Our cardiac experts also held informational sessions that included: “Contemporary Treatment for Women with Heart Disease” presented by Dr. Scott Riebel of Heart Specialists of Lancaster, “Women and Heart Disease” presented by Dr. Mike Lesko of Cardiac Consultants, “Woman Heal Thyself” presented by Dr. Scott Deron of The Heart Group, “Heart Attacks in Women –How Do You Know?” presented by Dr. Leanne Beidler of Crooked Oak Family Health Center and “Matters of the Heart: Becoming a Heart Healthy Woman” presented by Holly Shaffer, Lancaster General’s Women’s Heart Health Educator. Attendees also had the opportunity to participate in free screenings such as blood pressure, cholesterol, glucose, body fat analysis and heart health risk assessments.
Special thanks to: WIOV, the Big I-105 and Casey Allyn for showing how the Dance Dance Revolution Games were to be played.
The Day of Dance was sponsored by the Lancaster General Heart Center in cooperation with Cardiothoracic Surgeons of Lancaster, The Heart Group, Heart Specialists of Lancaster, Cardiac Consultants, the MRI Group and WIOV – The Big I-105.
