What Exactly Is Cancer?

Normal cells grow, divide and die. Instead of dying, cancer cells continue to grow out of control, dividing more than they should, and can form masses known as tumors. Cancerous tumors not only invade or destroy normal tissue, the cells also break away from the tumor and travel through the bloodstream or lymph system, migrating to other parts of the body where they can form additional malignant tumors—a process called metastasis. In Pennsylvania, lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer death in women, followed by breast cancer and colorectal cancer. To keep from becoming a statistic, be vigilant about changes in your health!
