Adolescence is a time of dramatic change in a young woman’s development. How a mother and daughter handle these changes plays a major part in their future relationship.
Lancaster General Women & Babies Hospital developed a life skills program to help girls and their mothers “survive” this stage. Growing Together is a two-hour presentation by medical professionals specifically focused on 9 – 12 year-old girls and their mothers.
Growing Together is conducted in a supportive setting that offers mothers and daughters an opportunity to develop their relationship as they learn about the changes that are coming their way. Growing Together helps mothers and daughters:
- Learn about the adolescent body
- Understand “normal” pre-teen and teenage behavior
- Develop healthy personal hygiene
- Improve communication skills
Growing Together is a unique program that helps mothers and daughters successfully navigate the developmental issues of adolescence while encouraging young girls to reach their potential. The program is provided free of charge to schools and community organizations. For more information, contact Karen Heinle at (717) 544-3650 or kfheinle@lancastergeneral.org.
