Recognizing the interconnectedness of mind and body in the healing process, the Well Spring provides facilities, services, materials, and programs to meet the emotional needs of all community members. Research indicates that laughter and optimism, although they can never replace conventional medicine, may actually boost the immune system’s ability to fight illness. This is particularly true when it comes to restoring health and combating pain.
The philosophy that health and healing can be enhanced through positive thoughts was made popular by Norman Cousins, the longtime editor of The Saturday Review, who triumphed over a life-threatening disease with a self-prescribed daily dose of laughter. This is the premise on which the Well Spring was founded.
The mission of the Well Spring is to create an extraordinary experience for all visitors by providing a welcoming place to rest, relax, and rejuvenate and by offering humorous and inspirational materials and programs free of charge to all who aspire to attain optimal health and well-being.
The Well Spring is a non-profit, volunteer-operated program. All services are provided free of charge. The library is located on the second floor of the Lancaster General Health Campus, 2100 Harrisburg Pike. Hours are Monday – Friday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
