How to Talk to Your Doctor
Make the most of your time with your doctor. Before scheduling an appointment, write down your symptoms (including when they started), questions and concerns.
- At the beginning of the visit, tell your doctor about any changes in your medical history.
- Answer truthfully if your doctor asks about your physical activity, diet, drug or alcohol use or sexual history.
- It’s also important to inform him or her of any prescription, herbal or over-the-counter medications or supplements you are taking.
-
If your doctor orders additional tests or prescribes medications, be sure you know why.
-
Don’t understand something? Ask for a simpler explanation. By preparing for your visit, you maximize your time with your doctor and walk away with the information you need.
