Speech-Language Pathology

Location: Lancaster General Health Campus and Lancaster General Medical Services at Willow Lakes

What Is Speech-Language Pathology?

Speech-language pathologists are communication specialists who treat speech, language, cognitive communication, voice, swallowing, fluency of speech and other related disorders.

Speech disorders are very common. In fact, one out of every 20 people in the United States suffers from some form of a speech-language disorder.

How Can We Help?

Problems with communication can affect people and families on many levels. Our speech-language pathologists focus carefully on personal attention and interaction. We believe that the relationship between our therapists and patients is one of the most important factors in the healing process. We also believe that communication with, and education of, the patient’s loved ones is of utmost importance.

The clinical methods used will vary depending on the nature and severity of the problem, the age of the individual and the individual’s awareness of the problem.

Our goals are to:

  • Fully assess and develop plans of care for each individual.
  • Counsel individuals with speech, language, cognitive and swallowing disorders to understand their disorder and to achieve more normal communication in educational, social and vocational settings.
  • Advise individuals and the community on how to prevent speech, language, cognitive and swallowing disorders.
