Postpartum depression affects 20-30 percent of women after childbirth and can cause serious health problems if ignored.
A woman may be experiencing postpartum depression if she’s:
- having trouble concentrating
- having difficulty sleeping
- worrying about small details
- isolating herself from family and friends
Women with postpartum depression don’t have to face it alone. Women & Babies Hospital now offers a Women’s Psychiatry Program on Fridays where women can meet with doctors and share feelings with other women facing similar issues.
During these small group meetings women are free to talk about their symptoms, gain an understanding of their condition and learn about treatment options. The program is led by Janine Castle, PhD, Lancaster General Behavioral Medicine and Neuropsychology.
