Occupational therapy is a broad reaching specialty within the therapy family. Occupational therapists treat individuals of all ages and life situations. Their prime focus is to assist people who have physical, developmental, social, or emotional issues to return to independent and productive lives.

Occupational therapists see a variety of patients. People requiring occupational therapy are often diagnosed with one of the following:

• Recent stroke, head injury or heart attack
• Progressive neurological conditions (Parkinsons, Multiple Sclerosis)
• Driving safety issues related to age, dementia or injury
• Hand and Upper Extremity Injuries (including complex injuries)
• Work related injuries
• Children with birth injuries, learning deficits or developmental disabilities
• Mobility and balance difficulties requiring Manual or Power Wheelchair Evaluations
• Vestibular and Visual Motor and Perceptual Deficits
• Fibromyalgia
• Home Safety needs and adaptive equipment

Your therapist will work closely with your physician and other healthcare professionals in an effort to maximize your potential in the shortest possible time. Your occupational therapist may also work with family members, attendants or even your place of employment, in order to recommend adaptations to your home or work environment.
