The purpose of the mentor program is to provide support as the graduate nurse adjusts to the professional Nursing role. ItThe Mentor program matches new graduate Nurse protégés with experienced Nurse mentors
- Both mentor and protégé apply for the program, and are then matched based on mutual interests and goals
- Mentors receive initial and ongoing education on mentoring
- Social and educational events are offered several times yearly to help the mentors and protégés connect. It is also expected that the partners will connect at other times as needed, via face to face meetings, phone calls, e-mails or notes.
- Mentors are supported by the clinical educators covering their units
The relationship that develops between the mentor and protégé can be mutually rewarding and encouraging; the relationship will last as long as both individuals seek to maintain it.
