Critical Care Nursing

The Cardiac Unit, which is part of the nationally recognized Lancaster General Heart Center , is a surgical telemetry unit. The primary case types include pre and postoperative cardiothoracic surgery, vascular surgery and medical telemetry. The Nurse Manager for the Cardiac Unit is Patti Roda.

The Emergency Department and Trauma Center treats over 99,000 patients annually. The expansive, state-of-the-art department has 51 beds in five distinct areas. Lancaster General serves the county as a Level II Trauma Center. The Nurse Manager for the Emergency Department is Jolyne Barnett.

The Infusion Team p rovides specialized technical expertise and clinical knowledge related to infusion therapies for the hospital system. The infusion team collaborates within a multi-disciplinary team to provide safe, effective, quality infusion care for patients. The Nurse Manager is Starann Watts.

The 32-bed Intensive Care Unit (ICU) cares for critically ill medical and surgical patients including the open heart surgery patient. Specialized services provided include cardiac, hemodynamic, respiratory and renal care. The Nurse Manager for the ICU is Aimee Anderson.

Intermediate Intensive Care is an 18-bed unit providing care to seriously ill patients. Common disease processes are respiratory failure, renal failure, heart failure, trauma and gastrointestinal bleeding. The Nurse Manager for Intermediate Intensive Care is Vickie Siegrist.

Five Telemetry Units care for case types that include medical telemetry, pre- and post catheterization, pre cardiac intervention, vascular surgery, and neurology. The Nurse Managers are Valerie Adams, Jennifer WagnerLiz Thompson, Kim Callahan and Kara Lefever.

The Heart Failure Unit is a telemetry unit that provides care primarily to heart failure patients. Dedicated cardiologists, nurse practitioners, nurses, and additional supportive staff practice in a multidisciplinary team approach for comprehensive quality patient care. Patient/family educational sessions and multidisciplinary rounds are an integral part of the Heart Failure Program which coordinates care between the inpatient and outpatient environments for continuity of patient care. The Nurse Manager for the Heart Failure Unit is Shirley Heisey.

The Telemetry/Interventional Unit is a medical telemetry and pre/post interventional procedures unit. Procedures include angioplasty, stents, brachytherapy, athrectomy, cardioseals and peripheral interventions requiring continuous thrombolytic therapy. The Nurse Manager is Bill Weber.

The 16-bed Trauma Neurosurgical Unit provides intensive primary nursing to critically or seriously ill trauma, neurological, and neurosurgical patients. The Nurse Manager for the Trauma Neurosurgical Unit is TammyJo Stetler.
