Wednesday, January 24, 2007
Lancaster General Hospital was awarded a four-year redesignation as a Magnet Hospital for excellence in nursing services by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). Only eight hospitals in Pennsylvania and 225 nationwide, have been awarded this status, making it one of the most coveted designations in nursing. LGH was first named a Magnet Hospital in 2002.
“Lancaster General Hospital’s nursing staff has a long-standing tradition of leadership, clinical excellence, collaboration and concern for patient safety,” said Thomas E. Beeman, Lancaster General President & CEO. “Magnet redesignation is a testament to the high standards which the ANCC requires, and which our patients deserve.”
The Magnet Recognition Program was developed by the ANCC to recognize healthcare organizations that provide the very best in nursing care and uphold the tradition of professional nursing practice. The Magnet designation process includes the appraisal of both qualitative and quantitative factors in nursing.
Magnet Hospitals demonstrate greater recognition for the profession of nursing, a work environment that honors the highest standards in nursing practice, and an employer committed to fostering professional growth. Studies show that Magnet Hospitals have lower mortality rates and high patient satisfaction, reflecting a team-oriented approach, which promotes collaboration among all disciplines in healthcare.
Recognizing quality patient care and nursing excellence, the Magnet Recognition Program provides consumers with the ultimate benchmark to measure the quality of care that they can expect to receive.
