The practice of Rheumatology was established in Lancaster by Marlin E. Wenger, M.D. in 1973. Richard W. Reese, M.D. joined the staff in 1978, Lisa S. Allen, M.D. in 1990, Colleen Matejicka, D.O. in 2002, Sandhya Adusumilli, M.D. in 2004 and Rebecca Shepherd, M.D. in 2006. These physicians are all Board Certified in Rheumatology and Internal Medicine and are Fellows in The American College of Rheumatology and the American College of Physicians.
Lancaster Rheumatology Associates physicians provide consultative services to referred patients, as well as ongoing management for patients with rheumatic diseases. Laboratory services are available in the office suite for the convenience of our patients. Since 1991, the evaluation and treatment of osteoporosis has also been a primary focus of the practice providing bone mineral density testing with the use of dual energy x-ray densitometry (DEXA). DEXA is also offered at Lancaster General-Norlanco, Lancaster General-Kissel Hill as well as the main office.
Clinical research includes ongoing studies assisting pharmaceutical companies in the development of medical therapies in rheumatic disorders and osteoporosis.
The physicians are actively involved in teaching Family Practice Residents at Lancaster General Hospital. They participate in educational talks in the community and present professional forums.
