Keep That Mental Edge

Keep that Mental Edge

A decline in mental alertness should not be considered a normal part of the aging process. Just like the rest of our body, we need to use and protect our brain to maximize its performance. Ongoing research demonstrates that there are many things you can do to optimize your brain’s function. The key is to continually learn new activities which help to stimulate brain cells. It’s not necessarily the complexity of the new activity that sharpens your mental edge; it’s the experience and learning that occurs with the newly introduced activity that helps keep your edge.

Sharpen Your Mental Edge by:
      • Getting enough sleep
      • Learning to play a musical instrument of your choice
      • Downsizing or minimizing caffeine intake
      • Engaging in routine physical exercise (aerobic)
      • Having a physician evaluate bothersome snoring
      • Falling in love
      • Including Omega 3 fatty acids in your daily diet (fish oil or flaxseed)
      • Indulging in meditation
