Laughter on Loan: the Well Spring Library
Tucked inside the Lancaster General Health Wellness Center is the community’s best kept secret: the Well Spring Library. Home to nearly 3,000 books, videos and DVDs, the library is a treasury of humor, and a place of comfort and support for individuals battling chronic illness, caretakers, volunteers and hospital staff. Best of all, it’s free to the public.
“Our philosophy is that humor is healing,” explains Cindi Moses, Well Spring Coordinator. “A good belly laugh boosts the immune system and lifts the spirit. Here, a patient undergoing cancer treatments or dialysis can borrow a TV series like “The Office” or stop by to watch a classic comedy like “Caddy Shack.”
More than 30 volunteers donate time at Well Spring, hosting free events like Laughter Luncheons and spreading cheer with the mobile “humor cart.”
