Creating an Extraordinary Experience

Lancaster General Health
Creating An Extraordinary Experience…Every Time

Lancaster General Health is in the process of transforming the way it delivers healthcare. “It’s not a new direction,” explains President and CEO Tom Beeman. “It’s an evolution.”

The transformation began in 2006 with the creation of a strategic plan for the organization. Building on a foundation of success while responding to powerful forces of change in healthcare, a vision emerged — a vision of Lancaster General as:
      • an extraordinary place to receive care,
      • an extraordinary place to work and learn, and
      • an extraordinary place to practice medicine.

“First of all, it’s the right thing to do,” explains Jan Bergen, Executive Vice President for Strategic Implementation & Chief Mission Officer. “It’s right to take pride in caring for patients who put their trust in us. It’s right to strive to exceed expectations. But it also makes fundamentally good business sense so we can continue to fulfill our mission in the long term. We remain committed to having quality technology, equipment and facilities. What will set us apart are physicians who listen and are compassionate, and staff who treat patient families like part of the care team. The difference will come in the perspectives of our physicians and staff bring as they work to create an extraordinary experience for patients and each other.” It’s not a simple task, evolving to make that vision a reality. But that’s the promise: To create an extraordinary experience….every time.

A Regionally Focused Health System

Research helped determine how to align Lancaster General Health with its new extraordinary experience vision. “We gathered information both internally and externally,” says Lisa Hess, Vice President of Marketing and Customer Relationship Management. “We surveyed physicians, consumers as well as employees.

“We learned that among many groups we are perceived as a community hospital,” adds Lisa. “The reality is that we are a regionally focused health system that includes three hospitals, outpatient centers and physician practices, a visiting nurse association, and much more. We have strengthened our name to Lancaster General Health to reflect that.” “Adding ‘Health’ to our name is recognition that we are your partner for life, not just when you are sick,” says Thomas Beeman, Lancaster General Health President and CEO.

Our Visual Identity

A new visual identity was also created – a guiding symbol that communicates the Extraordinary Experience Vision. The star signals a powerful, visionary symbol of excellence, hope and the spark of innovation. The colors convey Lancaster General Health’s heritage, strength and stability (blue), growth and the lush hills of Lancaster County (green) and innovation, vision and warmth of the evolving organization (orange).
At the heart of the new vision of Lancaster General Health are the high standards set to create an extraordinary experience for patients, staff and physicians. Each member of the Lancaster General Health community is charged with putting these values into action:
      • Personal integrity
      • Quality
      • Respect for the individual
      • Service
      • Teamwork and trust

What Are We Doing Next?

We know that our patients’ needs and expectations continually evolve. Today, consumers deserve personalized medicine and care. Our responsibility and promise to our community is to deliver this level of care, and more importantly, exceed expectations.

One recent example of this commitment is our new partnership with Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children, in Wilmington, Del., which grew from demands from parents to provide high-quality healthcare for our younger patients.

“We knew that improvements were needed in children’s care at the hospital, and we wanted to provide an atmosphere that parents would feel more comfortable with the care their children receive here,” Jan says. Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children is recognized as one of the nation’s premier pediatric hospitals, and our collaboration ensures that your child will receive increased access to top-quality pediatric care in your own community.

Our Vision, Your Health

That is Lancaster General Health’s Mission, our Vision, and our promise to you, your family and our community. “At Lancaster General Health, we’ve committed ourselves to a lifelong process, to not only continue to improve our service, but to recognize the future challenges and profound changes coming in healthcare,” Tom says. “We will always look to provide more efficient, more effective healthcare with outcomes that are both measurable and rich in quality.”

Our new corporate colors
