Therapy Programs
Especially for Women

Even though most of us finish growing sometime in our teens, our bodies never completely stop changing. Women, in particular, find themselves facing more physical changes than men. Pregnancy and menopause are two developments in women’s lives that place varying degrees of stress on their bodies—physically and hormonally.

Lancaster General realizes the special concerns facing women. We’ve developed a full complement of physical therapy programs and services to help you maintain a high degree of health.

“We realize women are often the healthcare decision-makers in their families. We make it a priority to offer them the latest rehabilitation programs with a caring, human touch,” says Ted Yanchuleff, Director of Outpatient Rehabilitation Services. “Our programs are designed to enhance women’s quality of life by improving their physical and social well-being.”

Many of our physical therapists, like Eileen Herman, have received specialized training. With more than 21 years of experience in physical therapy, Eileen has also taken post-graduate courses in manual therapy and women’s health. She is one of the lead therapists for the Pelvic Pain & Pelvic Floor Dysfunction and Urinary Incontinence programs at Lancaster General Women & Babies Hospital.

“Most women have wonderful insight into their bodies,” Eileen says. “They just need to be encouraged to ask questions and seek information to take control of their health.”

Our women’s physical therapy services include:

  • Aquatic Therapy – exercises and activities that take advantage of the healing effects of water in our Hydroworx 2000 pool.
  • Therapy Following a Cancer Diagnosis – light exercise to increase energy and reduce the side effects of radiation and chemotherapy.
  • Dizziness & Balance Disorders – programs to help overcome or manage dizziness and balance concerns.
  • Fibromyalgia – manage the symptoms of fibromyalgia and improve a person’s functional ability.
  • Lymphedema – treatment to manage lymphedema (accumulation of fluid that causes swelling in a limb or body part).
  • Osteoporosis – early detection and treatment planning for osteoporosis.
  • Pelvic Pain & Pelvic Floor Dysfunction – evaluation and treatment to help manage pain and restore function in the pelvic area.
  • Prenatal & Postpartum Management – evaluation and treatment of musculoskeletal conditions associated with pregnancy.
  • Urinary Incontinence – behavioral therapy program designed to help individuals overcome incontinence.

In addition to our physical therapy programs and services, our Women’s Wellness Center offers classes, programs and support groups to help you with lifestyle changes from stress management to smoking cessation as well as healthy eating and coping with an illness.
