Flo Mattox, owner operator of the Greenfield and East Towne Mall McDonalds Restaurants and Ronald McDonald House Charities Board Member presents Dr. Rusty Long and Dr. Mohammad Mazaheri with a check for $16, 904.44 to help create smiles at the Lancaster Cleft Palate Clinic.
The Clinic received this grant funding to replace and add equipment used in the treatment of children with craniofacial conditions. The new equipment will minimize the time the pediatric patient must spend in the treatment chair.
The grant provided for an air chisel used to release the corrective oral appliances from the molding, an x-ray apron and booster seat, root canal handpieces used to save the teeth, an x-ray processor to quickly develop the x-rays used in treatment and various additional handpieces used to provide dental and orthodontic care. The handpieces requested will replace equipment that is over 20 years old. The newer handpieces are compact providing the dentist or orthodontist with more workspace within the mouth. In addition, these updated, slender handpieces are less intrusive to children and their compact size reduces the gagging effect produced when dental or orthodontic work is performed. The new equipment will make the treatment experience for children more manageable. Often children at the Clinic endure long painful procedures, the addition of this new equipment will decrease pain related to intra-oral procedures. This financial investment from McDonald’s enables the Lancaster Cleft Palate Clinic to provide modern treatment with the assurance of a quality facility for patients and parents. “We love to see you smile is our tag line, but it takes on a new meaning as we provide funding for programs such as the Lancaster Cleft Palate Clinic which is dedicated to giving children the priceless gift of a smile,” says Mattox.
