All media requests for interviews and photographs of a patient should be directed to the Community Relations Director. Patients will be notified that an interview request has been made and the requestor will be identified. At the patient’s request, Community Relations can arrange or decline the interview inquiry. A written interview and photography release from the patient (or his/her immediate family if required, ex: a minor) is required. A Lancaster General representative will stay with the media and hospitalized patient throughout the entire session.
When necessary, the nursing supervisor or a member of the nursing staff should be present to guide the photographer on the appropriate poses in relation to the illness or injury. Photographs of unconscious patients or those suffering from severe injuries are not permitted.
The hospital or attending physician can decline, under certain circumstances, to grant interviews or photographs of a patient, even when the patient or his/her immediate family gives consent. Such circumstances might include a patient whose condition does not permit him/her being disturbed or any time when discretionary action is deemed advisable.
