The Lancaster General Hospital Rehabilitation Center is a 32-bed rehabilitation provider which is accredited by the Commission for Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) in the acute Rehabilitation Program and Brain Injury Program and Joint Commision on the Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO).
Mission
The Inpatient Rehabilitation program uses a team approach to maximize the use of an individual's ability to reach the highest level of physical, emotional, social, and psychological potential. Individuals admitted to the Rehabilitation Center have sustained an injury, impairment, or disability affecting their lifestyle or ability to care for oneself.
Goals
The goals of the rehabilitation process are to improve function, promote independence, preserve self-esteem and life satisfaction by achieving the following outcomes goals:
- Treating the underlying disease and disability
- Restoring or improving the loss of functional abilities
- Preventing complications
- Promoting adaption and adjustment of the individual and family
- Providing education and training to the individual and family
Appropriate Candidates
Individuals with the following conditions may be considered for the inpatient program:
- Stroke
- Brain Injury
- Multiple Trauma
- Neuromuscular Disorders
- Spinal Cord Dysfunction
- Amputation
- Pain Syndromes
- Orthopedic
- General Debility
Treatment Team
The individual and their family are considered the most important members of the team process. Treatment team members may include:
| Physiatrist |
Doctor who specializes in rehabilitation medicine. |
| Neuropsychologist |
This person is licensed and has a doctorate in psychology. They will evaluate you and help to establish goals for your specific neuropsychological, cognitive (mental), physical behavior, and emotional difficulties. |
| Case Manager |
Nurse specialist who is responsible for coordinating your care by keeping you and your family informed of your progress and medical status. |
| Physical Therapist |
Help improve function in patients with physical disabilities. |
| Occupational Therapist |
Helps you regain the skills needed to perform your own personal care tasks or ADL's (activities of daily living). |
| Speech Language Pathologist |
Helps individuals regain their speech, language, swallowing, and thinking abilities. |
| Rehabilitation Nurse |
Will coordinate your care and help to promote your independence by encouraging you and your family to become actively involved in your care. |
| Social Worker |
Will assist you and your family with needs or problems during your rehabilitation process. The social worker will also coordinate your discharge, and refer to community services as needed. |
| Dietitian |
Will help you to make adaptations to your diet as necessary so you are receiving adequate nutrition. |
| Recreational Therapist |
Assists people in adapting former leisure activities. |
