“Journal of LGH” keeps doctors on cutting edge
When healthcare professionals look for the latest ways to maintain high standards of patient care, one educational resource that’s gaining a favorable reputation is produced and written by physicians right here at Lancaster General.
In 2006, Lawrence I. Bonchek, MD, introduced the first issue of “The Journal of Lancaster General Hospital,” a 36-page publication with articles by fellow physicians that examine the latest research and innovations in the science, practice and delivery of healthcare. Dr. Bonchek serves as editor in chief. The Journal is also available on-line at http://JLGH.org/.
“Lancaster General has an often unheralded record of important clinical research and innovation,” Dr. Bonchek says. He says the mission is “to provide an educational resource that helps physicians maintain the highest standards and stimulate thinking on a variety of medical issues.”
Published quarterly, each issue contains four scientific articles that discuss clinical and research activities and new technologies at the hospital, review important clinical subjects and describe the role of Lancaster General physicians in collaborative national trials that are offering new medical treatment options.
The first five issues have covered groundbreaking information that physicians can share with many of their patients, such as the role of Vitamin D in the body, surgical treatment of breast cancer, Gamma Knife® radiosurgery, colorectal screening, chronic kidney disease and screening for chromosomal abnormalities.
