Maintain Your Weight

Helping you maintain your weight over the holidays

Ah, the holiday season. It’s a festive time of cheer, goodwill… and lots and lots of tempting, delicious foods.

It’s no wonder that by the time New Year’s Day rolls around, many of us are resolving to lose weight.

“People can see an average of one to six pounds of weight gain over the holidays,” says Rosemary Search, RN, BSN, Wellness Educator. “It may take until late spring or early summer to lose those pounds, and some of us may never lose those extra pounds.”

To keep those unwanted pounds away during a time of high temptation – and high stress – Lancaster General is inviting the community to join them in the Maintain Your Weight Over the Holidays program.

This free wellness program is designed to give you incentives, healthful tips and educational information to inspire you to avoid weight gain. You can participate in the program as an individual or as a team.

The great thing about this program is that it doesn’t prevent you from enjoying the tastes that we love during this season.

“What we are emphasizing is everything in moderation,” says Jacqui Zimmerman, RD, Wellness Center dietitian. “You don’t have to avoid holiday favorites. You just need to know your limit.”

Here’s how it works:

First, you can quickly sign up for the program by clicking here, or call 800-341-2121.

You will receive a welcome packet with weight management suggestions, and a log-in sheet so you can record your weight each week.

We will also send you weekly e-mail tips for managing stress, eating, exercise and healthy and delicious recipes to try over the holidays.

Return your log-in sheet by January 17 and you will be eligible for some great prizes in a random drawing. Registration in the program is due by Friday, November 23.

“People who write down their goals and monitor their progress are more likely to stick to their plan and be successful,” Rosemary says.

Doing the program with a friend, a spouse, or with co-workers as a team are also great ways to motivate one another to stick with the plan and reduce temptations.

“We are hoping that employers will get their employees involved in the program, get some healthy competitions going on at work, and find ways to reward their employees for their success in the program,” Jacqui says.

“If you can just start the year off without having to shed extra pounds gained over the holidays, then you’re actually ahead of the game,” Rosemary adds. “And this is an easy and fun way to do it.”

Maintain Your Weight Over the Holidays is part of Lancaster General’s Live Well for Life initiative to encourage people to adopt healthier lifestyles.
