Encouraging a Healthier Lifestyle

No matter what your health interest or concern, there was something for everyone at Lancaster General’s Healthy Living for Life Health Fair Extravaganza on Sept. 23.

More than 1,500 people of all ages came out to the Health Campus for the three-hour event and had a menu full of program options from which to choose.

Many enjoyed the healthy cooking demonstrations presented by Morrison Healthcare Food Services, where visitors learned about ways to spice up their menu at home with veggie nachos, grilled chicken, steamed broccoli, whole wheat pasta and raspberry tarts.

Visitors found screening tests and information on a variety of healthcare issues and Lancaster General services at more than 100 booths located on all three floors of the Health Campus. Ten educational health programs gave people an opportunity to talk to experts about matters of importance to them.

For the kids, mascot characters wandered throughout the fair, including Coco the Hershey Bear, Cylo from the Barnstormers, Yummie the Kitchen Kettle Village Gingerbread Man and Chipper the Herr’s Chipmunk.

Interactive sessions by Medtronic and Zimmer gave visitors an inside look at simulated cath labs and total joint surgery.

The health fair is part of Lancaster General’s ongoing commitment to promoting a healthier community.
