Lancaster General supports city living

Lancaster General’s designation as a non-profit healthcare system means, in part, that we continually reinvest in the communities of Lancaster. In that spirit, we have invested in Lancaster City since our beginnings here more than 110 years ago.

As the largest employer in Lancaster County and as one of the 100 Best Places to Work in PA, Lancaster General strives to provide programs that enhance the quality of life for our employees. Both of these focuses converge in an exciting new initiative: Home in the City, a home buyer assistance program for Lancaster General employees.

Modeled after similar programs started by banks, hospitals and colleges across the country, including Franklin & Marshall College, Home in the City provides financial assistance to full-time employees buying a primary residence in a defined area around Lancaster General Hospital.

Home in the City provides assistance in three areas:

  • Private Mortgage Insurance - coverage to reduce costs for the home buyer
  • Assistance with Settlement Costs – deferred loans for the down payment, closing costs and various home improvements
  • External Home Improvement – a matching loan for exterior home improvements

“Lancaster City offers close-knit neighborhoods, beautiful architecture and close proximity to many amenities and entertainment venues,” says Thomas Beeman, Lancaster General President & CEO.

“We feel that encouraging more employees to live in the city will have a positive impact on the community,” Beeman says. “It will increase the number of owner-occupied homes, improve property appearance and maintenance, and encourages an improved sense of community.”
