Lancaster General Raises $300,000 for Hurricane Katrina Relief
Lancaster General joined the outpouring of support for the victims of Hurricane Katrina last summer, raising $300,000 to help three nonprofit hospitals devastated by the storm.
Nearly 700 Lancaster General employees, physicians and board members contributed $124,000 to help East Jefferson General Hospital, West Jefferson Medical Center and Ochsner Clinic Foundation Hospital.
Lancaster General matched that contribution, increasing the total amount to $300,000. Jay Bucher, Vice President of Development for Lancaster General, traveled to New Orleans to deliver checks to each hospital.
“The dramatic stories of caring and compassion displayed by healthcare workers in New Orleans and throughout the Gulf Coast are enormously poignant, particularly for all of us at Lancaster General,” said Tom Beeman, President & CEO of Lancaster General. “This effort is one way we could make a direct difference in communities where medical care is most distressed.”
A committee selected these New Orleans hospitals after investigating the needs of nonprofit medical providers in the Gulf Coast region. Each overcame tremendous odds to provide service during and after the hurricane.
