Striving for Excellence
The past year has been filled with several historic accomplishments at Lancaster General.
Late last year, Lancaster General Hospital received Magnet Hospital designation, the highest honor bestowed by the American Nursing Association for clinical and operational excellence. Hospitals must meet vigorous standards and pass independent site visits where surveyors thoroughly evaluate the hospital’s nursing care. Magnet designation signifies a high-quality nursing team, which benefits everyone—patients, doctors, visitors, hospital staff and volunteers.
In addition, Lancaster General Hospital made history by earning its highest score ever—a score of 98 with no Type 1 recommendations—on the rigorous Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) survey late this summer. JCAHO is a not-for-profit organization that establishes more than 500 standards used to determine healthcare quality. This year’s historic score is tremendous affirmation of the professionalism and dedication to excellence that is prevalent throughout Lancaster General.
As grateful as we are for these types of distinctions, we are even more honored to continue to be your healthcare provider of choice in Lancaster County. Each year, more and more people choose Lancaster General facilities for themselves and their families. Your trust in us is the highest honor we can achieve. Highlights of this past year include:
- Renovating and expanding the Emergency Department and Trauma Center, which provides patient-focused care in a comfortable and calm environment.
- Advancing our goal of offering Lancaster General care within a 10-minute drive of anywhere in Lancaster County with the opening of the new Kissel Hill Health Center in Lititz and the renovated Columbia Health Center.
- Beginning construction on the Lancaster General Orthopedic Center at our downtown hospital. A goal of this collaborative effort among physicians, staff and community members is to become a local and national leader in the early identification, prevention and management of muscle and bone problems.
