Complementing Traditional Medicine

Complementing Traditional Medicine

Complementary and holistic are terms used to describe integrative therapies. As these therapies become more common, you may wonder what they are and how they differ from traditional, or conventional, medicine. Complementary therapies are used with conventional medicine to ease the symptoms of chronic diseases and conditions. These therapies emphasize the mind, body, spirit connection to aid in the healing process. The Lancaster General Wellness Center offers programs that can be used in conjunction with medically proven therapies. These techniques, such as guided imagery, yoga, journaling, qigong and reiki, are designed to enhance the mind’s capacity to affect bodily function and symptoms—like reducing stress or pain.
