Obesity has reached epidemic proportions in the United States. And not just for adults. Nearly 25 percent of children are overweight. Obesity presents numerous problems for children, including increased risk for developing diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease and arthritis. Being overweight can also impact a child’s self-esteem.
The Lancaster General Education & Wellness Center is offering a new weight management program developed for children ages 5-17. During this 10-session, nationally-recognized program, children learn how to make healthy food choices and increase physical activity. Certified instructors lead the program, which involves participation from both the child and the parent(s) or guardian and a multidisciplinary approach to learning. For details, call 544-3145.
