Control Hot Flashes

  • Wear layers of clothing in order to better regulate your comfort zone
  • Exercise regularly to help reduce the severity of hot flashes
  • Cut back on spicy foods, foods and beverages containing caffeine and alcohol
 
Prevent Osteoporosis
  • Take in at least 1,500 milligrams of calcium daily. Good sources include dairy products and spinach.
  • Calcium supplements can help fill in the gaps.
  • Get at least 400 units of Vitamin D each day to aid in calcium absorption.
  • Exercise regularly to build strong bones and muscle.
 
Reduce Heart Disease Risk
  • Quit smoking.
  • Control your diet and eat foods that are high in fiber and low in fats. Eat plenty of fruits and vegetables.
  • Watch your blood pressure. Diet, exercise and blood pressure medications can help keep it within recommended levels.
