To meet the demand for services, the Lancaster General Emergency Department & Trauma Center opened an expanded and enhanced version in 2003. The new Emergency Department and Trauma Center is designed to offer patients a more pleasant, informed, calming and caring atmosphere.
The emergency department, which was expanded to 34,000 square feet, can accommodate more than 90,000 patient visits a year. Lancaster General Hospital treats more than 60 percent of the emergency cases in Lancaster City, and nearly half of all emergency cases in Lancaster County. It is also home to the county’s only Trauma Center.
The new department features larger triage and treatment areas for orthopedics, trauma, cardiac and behavioral health. The unique needs of pediatric patients will also be addressed including a special area for children in the patient waiting room.
