Appointments for X-rays and other radiology studies may be made at a variety of Lancaster General facilities. To schedule a diagnostic study, please call (717) 544-5941.

Laboratory Testing

Providing accurate, fast results is a hallmark of Lancaster General laboratories. Highly qualified physicians and medical technicians conduct routine blood tests, urinalysis and pre-admission testing at a number of convenient locations, including Lancaster General Women & Babies Hospital, Lancaster General Health Campus, Lancaster General Hospital, Medical Services at Willow Lakes, and Medical Services at Crooked Oak. No appointments are necessary in most cases. Just visit the lab anytime during scheduled hours. Rhogam injections for pregnant women with RH-negative blood are given at the Women & Babies Hospital. Call (717) 544-3779 if you have any questions.

Mammography

Mammography, a series of low-dose X-rays of the breasts, can identify breast cancer several years before a lump develops, making it the single most effect method for early detection. Screening mammograms are recommended yearly for women over the age of 40. For your convenience, mammography services are available at various locations. If any abnormality or inconsistency appears on your screening mammogram, further diagnostic breast imaging may be recommended. To schedule a mammogram at any Lancaster General facility, please call (717) 544-5941.

R2 ImageChecker

All screening mammograms performed at Lancaster General facilities are reviewed not only by a board-certified radiologist, but also by an R2 ImageChecker. This computer-aided detection process adds an extra measure of confidence for women, and further improves the likelihood of detecting early breast cancer. For more information about this unique technology, call (717) 544-3469.

PET Imaging

Positron Emission Tomography, or PET, allows physicians to see how organ systems of the body are functioning at a cellular level, detecting diseases such as cancer and Alzheimer’s. Patients receive an intravenous injection of a glucose tracer and the PET scanner records the signal these tracers emit through the body. Cells with increased metabolism, like cancer cells, use more glucose than neighboring cells and are easily seen on a PET scan. The scans help to determine if cancer has spread and can confirm the success of cancer treatments. If you would like information on this service, call (717) 544-3030.

Ultrasound

This diagnostic imaging procedure uses the echoes from very high-frequency sound waves to create a picture of your internal organs, helping your doctor to detect tumors, cysts or inflammation. Ultrasound also allows obstetricians to confirm the progress of pregnancy and the development of the fetus. A full range of ultrasound services is available at several Lancaster General locations. To schedule an ultrasound, call (717) 544-5941.
