Cardiac Rehab Internship Opportunities
The Cardiac Rehabilitation Program offers internship opportunities for undergraduate college students (ending their junior or senior year) who are pursuing an exercise science degree program.

The Cardiac Rehabilitation team at the Lancaster General Health Campus sees as many as 100 patients per week.  The program includes three phases as well as education.
  • Phase I – pre-training
  • Phase II - training groups
  • Phase III – transitional rehab program (for patients who need to extend their rehab to transition into independent home exercise or fitness club membership)

In addition, we have developed a Vascular Rehabilitation Program, which focuses on those patients who suffer from PAD (peripheral artery disease) and have intermittent claudication (onset of pain when walking). We also offer a Diabetes Rehabilitation Program for individuals with Type I, Type II or Pre-diabetes.  Education is a key component of each program. Patients learn about the nature of their disease, risk factor modification, components of healthy eating and exercise guidelines.

The exercise physiologists also assist in a program for patients with congestive heart failure and a childhood obesity program (SHAPEDOWN).

Our staff is often asked to speak about the benefits of exercise on coronary artery disease and overall good health.

During the course of the internship, the student intern will:
  • actively participate in the daily activities of our experienced exercise physiologists and work in conjunction with our registered nurses
  • experience many observations to give them a better idea of what many of our patients go through before they begin rehab.
  • eventually be expected to perform independently the full role of the exercise physiologists.

If you have any questions, desire more information or which to set up an interview, please contact D.C. Clark or Brian Burk at (717) 544-3126.  Resumes can be sent to: Attn: D.C. Clark, Lancaster General Cardiovascular Rehabilitation, 2100 Harrisburg Pike, Lancaster, PA 17604, or emailed to dfclark@lancastergeneral.org.

We consider the student internship to be not only a valuable educational tool for the student, but also a rewarding experience for our department.  Thank you for your interest.
