Lancaster General is continually looking for ways to improve the health of our communities by addressing the most urgent health care needs. The mission of Lancaster General’s Cancer Care program is to prevent and reduce the burden of suffering due to cancer in the communities we serve. It is estimated that 40% of cancers may be preventable. For cancers that are not preventable, we know that earlier detection improves survival and simplifies treatment. To better understand what cancers are preventable in our communities and to know which people in our communities will benefit from screening studies aimed at earlier detection of cancer, LG has commissioned an extensive study of cancer-related health statistics in Lancaster County. This new report provides comparisons to state and surrounding county statistics. We now present this report, entitled “Lancaster County Cancer Data Report 2007”. This report will guide our Community Outreach professionals and our Cancer Care team to improve the health of Lancaster’s communities through education, surveillance and prevention.
