What to Expect

Prior to your first visit:
  • Family history and risk factor questionnaires will be sent to you to help plan for your first visit.

First visit:
  • You will meet with a genetic oncology nurse or genetic counselor to review your information.
  • You will learn about risk factors and genetic variables.

After your first visit:
  • We will help you obtain additional helpful information.
  • We will review your case with the multidisciplinary team at the Abramson Cancer Center of the University of Pennsylvania.
  • The team will make recommendations for further participation in research.

Second visit:
  • You will meet with a medical oncologist as well as a genetic oncology nurse or genetic counselor.
  • We will review your results with you and answer your questions.
  • We will share our recommendations with you regarding genetic testing.
  • If you decide on genetic testing, blood may be drawn at this visit.

Additional visits:
  • If you have genetic testing, we will set up time to meet with you to discuss your results and create a plan to monitor your health.
  • We may also make recommendations for referrals for consultations with other medical specialists.
