ECRI Institute has designed online CME courses to address current quality, patient safety, and risk management issues facing health care providers today.
Cost-Effective, Online Continuing Education Now Available
ECRI Institute’s e-Learn membership is a catalog of patient safety and risk management courses accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME). This new program is different from other CME offerings because it is backed by ECRI Institute’s research and independence. New courses will be added to the catalog regularly based on ECRI Institute’s ongoing research.
Government and Industry Drive Change in Healthcare Education
The 2007 Agency for Health Research and Quality (AHRQ) meta-analysis of the effectiveness of CME in the U.S. concludes that only 58% of CME courses offered appear to be effective at changing physician behavior and patient outcomes. Their research found that interactive courses are more effective than other methods. Our online courses are interactive and incorporate accepted adult learning principles.
Additionally, Congressional hearings in 2008 have called into question the ability for pharmaceutical and medical device manufacturers to provide unbiased and effective CME. ECRI Institute’s conflict of interest policy prohibits us from accepting funding from pharmaceutical and medical device manufacturers. Our courses are based on our research and are free from the influence of pharmaceutical and medical device companies. The quality of our research is of the highest integrity.
CME Accreditation Statement:
ECRI Institute is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians. The CME opportunities associated with these courses have been planned and implemented in accordance with the Essential Areas and Elements and Accreditation Policies of ACCME and designated for AMA PRA Category 1 Credits.
