Building Self-Esteem in Girls
LG Health Helps Launch Girls on the Run
 
Lancaster General Health, in collaboration with community volunteers, is launching Girls on the Run. The initiative targets preteen girls, grades 3 through 8, to develop positive self-image and healthy lifestyles by addressing the whole person – emotional, mental, social, spiritual and physical – through guided lessons and physical activity. Girls on the Run is a non-profit organization that works with communities to bring the program to schools and recreation programs.
 
 

 

LG Health Opens Healthy Weight Management Center

Lancaster County residents struggling with their weight are getting a new resource. Lancaster General Health’s Healthy Weight Management Center is now open. The facility offers programs consisting of exercise and nutrition classes for youth and adults, a fully-equipped teaching kitchen, exercise equipment and healthy food to go.
 
 

 
Flu Shot Offered for Seniors
 
This year, as much as 20% of the population will be sickened by the flu, with more than 200,000 people hospitalized for treatment. Because some people, such as older people, young children and people with certain health conditions, are at high-risk of serious flu complications, Lancaster General Health is issuing its yearly reminder about the importance of a flu shot.

Columbia Outpatient Center Community Open House – September 27
 
The community is invited to an open house and tour of the newly-renovated Lancaster General Health Columbia Outpatient Center located at 306 N. 7th St., Columbia, on September 27, from 1 – 4 p.m. The new space is designed to enhance the patient experience and provide more comprehensive care to patients in the community. 
 
 

 
Free Child Safety Seat Inspection – September 12
 
Motor vehicle crashes remain the number one killer of children ages 2 – 14 in Pennsylvania and across the United States. According to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, young children restrained properly in child safety seats have an 80 percent lower risk of fatal injury than those who are unrestrained.
 
 
 

 
Three New Baccalaureate Degrees Offered at Lancaster General College of Nursing & Health Sciences
 
The Lancaster General College of Nursing & Health Sciences (LGCNHS) has received approval by the Pennsylvania Department of Education to expand its program to offer three new healthcare professional degrees. The three new baccalaureate-level programs are the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (RN to BSN); the Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences (BSHS); and the Bachelor of Science in Healthcare Administration (BSHA).
 
 

 
Maple Farm Nursing Center Joins Garden Spot Village
 
Lancaster General Health’s Maple Farm Nursing Center in Akron is now part of Garden Spot Village, one of the region’s most successful and innovative not-for-profit continuing-care retirement communities. Based in New Holland, Garden Spot Village offers a range of residential and healthcare options, including independent living, assisted living, skilled nursing for long- and short-term care, memory support and personal at-home services.
