Growing and Expanding to Meet Patient Needs
As a not-for-profit healthcare organization, Lancaster General Health continually invests in the health and well-being of Lancaster County residents.
As we continue to dedicate resources to the community, one of the most visible signs of this investment is the expansion of our facilities. Last year, LG Health invested $35 million into new and renovated facilities, creating and sustaining jobs and bringing new technology to our community.
We see this investment as both a continuation of our community commitment and a part of our Vision to make Lancaster General Health an extraordinary place to work and learn, to practice medicine and, most importantly, to receive care.
Here are examples of how LG Health is improving its facilities to meet patient needs.

Lancaster General Health Women & Babies Hospital opened in June 2000 and within two years, had exceeded its five-year goals. Located near the Lancaster General Health Suburban Outpatient Pavilion, (formerly known as the LG Health Campus) west of Lancaster City, the hospital delivers more than 5,000 babies a year, making it one of the busiest maternity hospitals in Pennsylvania. In addition to maternity-related services, the hospital provides vital gynecological and diagnostic services as well as a comprehensive array of education and wellness activities.
Phase One of our most recent expansion project was completed in December. Eight beds were added to the county’s only Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, bringing the total capacity to 29 beds. The triage unit was also expanded to include six more beds. Phase Two’s new two-story addition, housing 14 couplet care (post-partum) rooms, two nurseries and a larger pharmacy is scheduled for completion in May.

In August, Lancaster General Health Willow Lakes Outpatient Center opened in the Willow Valley Medical Center complex in Willow Street. The 26,000 square-foot facility is one of two anchor tenants in the medical office building.
The outpatient center was designed to enhance the patient experience and provide more comprehensive care to patients in this part of our community. Medical services include imaging, lab testing and rehab/physical medicine in addition to geriatric services.
Lancaster General College of Nursing & Health Sciences
We recently added 15,000 square feet for administrative offices and four classrooms to Lancaster General College of Nursing & Health Sciences, which today has an enrollment of more than 750 students. The expansion provides room for 100 to 150 more students to participate in the College’s popular nursing and allied health programs and also increases the College’s technology capabilities.
“The College has seen tremendous growth during the last five years,” said Mary Grace Simcox, President, Lancaster General College. “The expansion helps us to continue to respond to the community’s increasing need for healthcare professionals.”

Several other LG Health centers grew and relocated in 2008, including the new Suzanne H. Arnold Center for Breast Health at the Lancaster General Health Suburban Outpatient Pavilion (formerly LG Health Campus). LG Health’s investment in state-of-the-art digital breast screening equipment and the need for a comprehensive breast center made the move imperative.
Lancaster General Health Bariatric Physician Specialists, located in the 2150 Building at the same campus, is a new 12,400 square foot center featuring many amenities, including a fitness area, locker rooms, dietary offices, examination rooms, a kitchen and a presentation lounge for healthy cooking demonstrations. Community outreach support is offered through Lancaster General Healthy Weight Management Program.
