Dear Neighbor,

Welcome to our Spring 2009 Community Benefit Report, which is unlike our previous reports in two fundamental ways.

First, it reflects our enhanced graphic identity and name Lancaster General Health. Both are subtle yet significant changes that communicate our evolution into a regional health system with a wide variety of services, facilities and more than 7,000 professionals to meet our community’s growing healthcare needs.

Second, and most important, this report details how we are carrying out our Vision of creating an Extraordinary Experience…every time. We are committed to being an extraordinary place to receive care,

Jeffrey F. Lehman and Thomas E. Beeman

an extraordinary place to practice medicine and an extraordinary place to work and learn.

We are increasingly focused on helping people stay well rather than caring for them only when they’re ill or at risk of illness. We not only believe this is the right thing for us to do, but it is also the direction being supported by policymakers and consumers who are looking for a new kind of healthcare relationship that is less costly and delivers better results.

Improvement is already evident. On page 5, “Growth & Expansion,” we describe our new services, “no-wait areas” and Healing Arts initiative at Lancaster General Health Willow Lakes Outpatient Center and our Downtown Outpatient Pavilion, as well as upgraded patient rooms at Lancaster General Hospital and Lancaster General Health Women & Babies Hospital – changes that we believe will result in a more optimal experience for both patients and employees.

On page 7, “Access to Care,” you will learn about our support for Project Access Lancaster County, an innovative program that provides free medical care to underinsured and uninsured Lancaster County residents. Additional stories feature our commitment to improving our environment, our support for a new community partnership that will help students with cognitive disabilities realize their full potential, and our leadership in the adoption of electronic medical records.

On behalf of all of us at Lancaster General Health, we hope you enjoy reading this report and encourage you to share your thoughts and ideas with us to help us advance the health and well-being of the communities we serve.

Sincerely,

Thomas E. Beeman Jeffrey F. Lehman
