 Reaching People Through Proven Results

Accreditation, certification, benchmarks. You’ll see those words repeatedly in conjunction with Lancaster General. Where national and state standards for quality exist, we work rigorously – and by choice – to achieve or exceed them. Programs and services that already meet these standards are more likely to receive grant funding, which is critical for our non-profit, outreach efforts. Healthy People 2010 and Measure Up Lancaster! are just a few of the guidelines we follow. We hope you feel their added value in our community health efforts.

To provide top quality care for the greatest number of people, we must have two views. The first is from the outside in. Here, we address Lancaster County’s priority health issues as identified with our community and coalition partners – healthy weight management, tobacco use, domestic violence and access to care.

If they escalate, these issues often require hospital-based treatment for heart disease, cancer, nervous system and orthopedic disorders, and specific women’s health conditions. Our view then shifts from the inside out – from in-hospital to community-based care. Finally, and ever-present, is the need for prevention and wellness. The potential is for a trusted, lifelong relationship – by choice – between us and our community.

How does a non-profit health system like Lancaster General achieve all of this? By reinvesting in our most important resources: our people, facilities and technology. You’ll find examples of each throughout this report.
