Focus Area #4: Orthopedic Services
Wellness & Prevention
An active life is a healthy life. Lancaster General is unparalleled in its promotion of orthopedic wellness. Coaches’ Clinic gives coaches vital health information for their young athletes. Staying in the Game, also free, teaches kids and parents how to keep bones and muscles healthy. There is also Focus on Health, a community-based prevention program that provides risk assessment and teaches the signs, symptoms and treatment of many conditions, including osteoporosis.
Diagnosis & Treatment
Lancaster General has become a dominant player in comprehensive orthopedic care. We perform 9,000+ orthopedic procedures annually –more than anyone in the region. This tradition started more than 12 years ago at the Health Campus and continues at the Lancaster General Orthopedic Center, the first of its kind in the region and home to digitally integrated operating rooms, a rehab gym and 62 patient beds.
For joint replacement, our comprehensive approach includes pre-surgery home visits, patient handbooks and virtual tours to help patients feel at ease. For women – who represented approximately 40 percent of knee replacement patients in 2006 – we offer the Zimmer NexGen® Knee Replacement, specially shaped for less pain, greater mobility and better quality of life. All patients benefit from an integrated team of physicians and nurses dedicated solely to orthopedics.
Superior surgical care is just the beginning. We can treat virtually any orthopedic condition – sports-related and occupational injuries, bone and muscle disorders, and more. Our patients include adolescents, senior citizens and everyone in between – and each receives specialized treatment.

Recovery & Support
From inpatient pain management to outpatient physical therapy, Lancaster General’s depth of care is proven to speed recovery and generate better long-term results. It can be the difference between continued independence and a life with limitation.
Fortunately, our outpatient rehabilitation programs are conveniently located throughout the county so that it’s easier to make full recovery a priority. Our Wellness Center offers a variety of exercise programs specially designed for people with physical limitations. We want people to know that we remain by their side, ready to answer questions or just listen if that’s what a patient needs.

Meeting the needs of our county’s aging population through state-of-the-art care is central to Lancaster General’s Strategic Plan 2010. We identify these needs by collaborating with community partners – and meet them the same way. |
