Spanning the Continuum of Care
Lancaster General provides exceptional care across the board, often in outpatient settings. Outpatient care reduces unnecessary hospital admissions and emergency department visits. The primary care physicians of Lancaster General are vital partners in these efforts. Our ultimate goal is an efficient delivery system with more resources for research, development, advanced care and community benefit.
Emergency and Trauma
In times of crisis, Lancaster General is prepared. Our Emergency Department (ED) treated more than 90,000 patients in 2006 and is staffed by board-certified emergency physicians who are exclusive to Lancaster General. We receive pre-hospital EKGs from several ambulance services to better prepare for arriving heart patients. Our ED also includes private patient rooms, special pediatric rooms and FastCare for minor emergencies.
The Lancaster General Trauma Center is equally prepared. In 2006, more than 1,900 cases came through the center, more than half of which were orthopedic related. The center is the only Level II facility of its kind in the county and has been for more than 20 years. Emergency and trauma care are often a patient’s first experience with Lancaster General. We work to ensure it is a positive one.
Behavioral Health
For inpatient mental health care, our qualified team of psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, nurses and psychiatric liaison practices the Sanctuary Model,™ which focuses on comprehensive safety. Safety, quality, education and hope are also part of our outpatient treatment. Evaluation, medication management, testing and counseling are available at many Lancaster General facilities and close to work or home.
Geriatrics
Lancaster General understands and strives to address the special needs of seniors. Through comprehensive services – and providers such as Lancaster General Medical Group, Geriatric Associates, Maple Farm Nursing Center and VNA Community Care Services – we act as partners in health for Lancaster County’s seniors.
