Blood Bank
Every three seconds, someone needs blood. The demand for blood is greater today than ever. Our community's supply needs constant replenishment. Donated blood saves the lives of accident victims, those undergoing surgery and patients receiving treatment for cancer and other diseases.

At Lancaster General, we rely on our generous blood donors who ensure our patients have access to a safe and adequate blood supply.

Please, help your neighbor in need. Give Blood - The Gift of Life.

Blood donation takes about an hour and involves a few simple steps:
  1. Medical History - When you arrive to donate, you will complete a health history questionnaire that will be reviewed by a nurse. You will be asked about past illnesses, general health and medications.
  2. Mini-Physical - The nurse checks to make sure your blood pressure, temperature, pulse and hematocrit are acceptable.
  3. Donation - Giving blood only takes 10-12 minutes. As you donate, you will rest comfortably in a reclining chair.
  4. Recharge - Before you leave, you will have the chance to relax for a few minutes and enjoy some light refreshments.
