Meet Our Team
Alan H. Brader, MD, FACS
Dr. Brader is an active member of the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery. He is board-certified in both surgery and surgical critical care and is a clinical expert in the field of advanced laparoscopic surgery.
From 1991 until 2004, Dr. Brader served as a Clinical Associate Professor of Surgery with the University of North Carolina. During his tenure, he was awarded the Surgical Teacher of the Year on three occasions by the surgical residency staff.
A native of Lancaster, Dr. Brader returned home and accepted the position as Medical Director of the Lancaster General Healthy Weight Management Program. He is also the founder of Lancaster General Bariatrics, a multidisciplinary weight loss surgery practice.
All weight loss surgery is done exclusively at Lancaster General Hospital.
Wendy J. Miller, RN, MSN, CCRN
Wendy J. Miller, RN, MSN, CCRN is the Bariatric Nurse Coordinator for the Healthy Weight Management Program. Wendy received her formal education in nursing at the Indiana University of Pennsylvania and her master’s degree in nursing from the University of Delaware. Wendy has been certified in critical care nursing for 20 years.
Wendy’s professional career includes 10 years as a staff nurse in the Medical/Surgical Intensive Care at Lancaster General Hospital and 8 years as a Nurse Clinician for the open heart surgery team. Prior to joinging the Healthy Weight Management Program, Wendy was a Nursing Instructor at the Lancaster General College of Nursing and Health Sciences. Her clinical background and experience in education are valuable tools for patients considering weight loss surgery.
As the bariatric nurse coordinator, Wendy’s goals are to help each patient navigate successfully through their own weight loss experience and to provide support to patients coping with the life changes that occur with weight loss.
Kristin Amicone, RD, LDN
Kristin Amicone is the Healthy Weight Management Program dietitian. She graduated from West Chester University, majoring in Nutrition and Dietetics. Kristin’s experience includes nutritional risk assessment, lifestyle behavior modification and nutrition education.
As a bariatric dietitian, she provides individual nutritional counseling, educational programming and experience modeling for personal lifestyle improvements.
Kristin’s bariatric nutrition care plan for patients includes in-class activities, food demonstrations, grocery shopping tours and dining-out trips. She is committed to individually-focused education for each and every bariatric patient.
Greg A. Byer, CSCS
Greg Byer is the Bariatric Exercise Physiologist at the Healthy Weight Management Program. He graduated from Indiana University with a degree in science and a minor in athletic training. Greg also has special certification as a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist.
Prior to joining the Lancaster General Healthy Weight Management Program, he managed a highly successful Wellness Program at Windber Medical Center. In that role, Greg developed physical activity care plans for his patients, which included many bariatric surgical patients.
Mr. Byer possesses tremendous interpersonal skills and enjoys developing unique exercise programs, targeting the individual strengths and weaknesses of each bariatric patient.

Karen S. Parris
Karen S. Parris is the Lancaster General Bariatrics Receptionist and a member of the Healthy Weight Management team. Ms. Parris served as a dental technician, second-class in the U.S. Navy for eight years.
Prior to joining the Lancaster General Healthy Weight Management Program, Karen was a Patient Care Coordinator and Office Manager for several dental and oral surgery offices in Lancaster County. Her clinical strengths are exceptional customer service and superior multi-tasking organizational skills.
She strives to surpass the expectations of each bariatric patient that we care for in the Healthy Weight Management Program.
