Postpartum Depression
Postpartum depression affects 10 to 20 percent of women after childbirth. It’s a condition that can be treated and should not be ignored. If a new mother isolates herself from friends and neighbors, has trouble concentrating, difficulty sleeping and worries about every little detail, she may be suffering from postpartum depression. The Partnership Center for Women’s Behavioral Health at Lancaster General Health Women & Babies Hospital offers screening for postpartum depression, medication evaluation and monitoring, group support for new mothers, and individual therapy. For free and confidential advice, please call (717) 544-3172 for more information. For information about the monthly meetings of the Postpartum Depression Support Group, please call the Mental Health Association at (717) 397-7461. If you’ve been previously diagnosed or are pre-disposed to postpartum depression, you may want to begin attending sessions during your pregnancy.
